Chad Gray– The man, the myth, the legend- took the stage at the Bourbon Theatre with nothing to prove. All he wants to do is go out and celebrate his 30 Years in the music business by touring with some of his friends and having a good time. That’s it. That is all this is about. A man with no agenda but to celebrate his past and have a good time in the process.
The Chad Gray tour is titled “30 Years of Madness” playing songs of Madvayne and Hellyeah. A great rock and roll pedigree for sure. The night started with Devil’s Cut, a cool new band from Kentucky (check them out if you can!) and then the Butcher Babies, who had the crowd all riled up for Mr. Gray when he took the stage.
Chad Gray has a unique look for this tour, only donning the make-up and blood on half of his face. Rather than the full gore you would see at a Mudvayne show, it’s a unique look for sure and fun to shoot photos of. It gave the vibe of the villain Two-Face from the Batman comics. But way cooler. It was no holds barred from the opening notes.
After the 3rd song Chad Gray gave everyone a breather to explain why he was doing this tour. And it boils down to this, he wants to go out and have a good time. No agendas, just metal mayhem and fun. A way to give back to the fans for all the years of support. I think it’s a perfect way to show some love to the fans. And judging from the fan’s reactions, the love is mutual. They gave Chad as much energy as he gave them. It was fun to watch and hear.
The setlist was pretty even between Hellyeah and Mudvayne songs. Highlights for me include Demons In The Dirt (Hellyeah), World So Cold (Mudvayne), and the set closer Dig (Mudvayne). This is such a great tour, do yourself a favor and get out and see it. You will not be disappointed.
